Summary:  

Participants will gain essential knowledge of refining processes and process simulations. They will develop an understanding of the refining business, key process technologies, and modeling with Aspen HYSYS. The course includes case studies, confidence-building in distillation column modeling, and managing crude oil assay information.

Who Should Attend: 

The program is designed for personnel new to the petroleum refining industry with backgrounds in engineering or chemistry, or refinery operating experience. New engineering graduates or technologists using Aspen HYSYS, process engineers in refinery design and optimization, plant engineers monitoring plant performance, and R&D engineers using Aspen HYSYS for process synthesis. Those without technical or refinery backgrounds should consider attending "Basics of Petroleum Refining for Non-Technical Personnel.

Instructor: 

Michael (Mike) Bober Mr. Bober holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He served as a Process Engineer, Project Developer, Economist, and Manager at Exxon’s Bayway Refinery for twelve years. He then joined Mobil Research and Development as an FCC Specialist. He managed technical training for Engineering, worldwide, until Exxon and Mobil merged in 2000. At this point, he managed worldwide technical training for ExxonMobil Research and Engineering and then retired from managing the Technical Portfolio for ExxonMobil’s Global Manufacturing Training initiative – with a combined service of 37 years to the two companies.
