About:
This course provides a practical overview of the design, construction, and mechanical integrity requirements for process piping in accordance with ASME B31.3. Participants gain an understanding of piping codes, material selection, pressure design, flexibility, fabrication, inspection, and in-service integrity practices to improve safety, compliance, and reliability.
What You’ll learn:
Understand the scope and application of ASME B31.3 process piping requirements.
Select piping materials, valves, fittings, and pressure-retaining components for various fluid services.
Apply principles of piping flexibility, supports, and pressure design.
Recognize fabrication, installation, inspection, examination, and testing requirements for process piping.
Understand in-service inspection, repair, alteration, and rerating practices to support mechanical integrity.
Who Should Attend:
ASME B31.3 Process Piping – Design, Construction, and Mechanical Integrity is designed for engineers, maintenance personnel, quality assurance professionals, inspectors, and manufacturing personnel who design, construct, inspect, maintain, or manage process piping systems in industries such as chemical processing, petroleum, plastics, and pulp and paper.

Taught By:
Paul Lenihan
Meet The Instructor:
Paul Lenihan has 19 years of mechanical engineering experience in pipe stress analysis, pipe support design, and construction for the power, chemical, and natural gas industries. His experience includes high-temperature piping, pressure safety valve discharge systems, piping connected to rotating equipment, and engineered support systems.
He has supported compressor station construction, equipment installation, plant startup, thermal expansion assessments, and field modifications. His code experience includes ASME B31.1, B31.3, and B31.8, as well as federal pipeline requirements under 49 CFR Part 192.
Paul holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology and an AS in Architectural Engineering Technology from Penn State University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and an API 570 Certified Piping Inspector.
