About:
This course provides a practical review of sulfuric acid alkylation technology used to produce high-value gasoline blending components. Participants examine alkylation chemistry, process design, operating variables, equipment, acid management, process hazards, corrosion control, monitoring, economics, and optimization. Emphasis is placed on improving unit reliability, safe operation, acid handling, and maximizing alkylate production while balancing operating conditions and process performance.
What You’ll learn:
Explain sulfuric acid alkylation chemistry, process design, and operating principles.
Evaluate operating variables that influence alkylate production, acid consumption, and unit performance.
Apply best practices for acid management, corrosion control, process safety, and unit monitoring.
Identify opportunities to optimize sulfuric alkylation unit performance, reliability, and economics.
Who Should Attend:
Sulfuric Alkylation is designed for refinery process engineers, operations personnel, technical service professionals, supervisors, and engineers responsible for sulfuric alkylation unit operation, troubleshooting, optimization, or process support.

Taught By:
Herb Telidetzki
Meet The Instructor:
Herbert “Herb” Telidetzki has over 35 years of petroleum refining experience, specializing in FCC and sulfuric acid alkylation. Before retiring from Marathon, he supported nine FCC and alkylation units with troubleshooting, optimization, modeling, catalyst evaluation, and upgrade projects, including FCC and alkylation capacity expansions.
His career also includes consulting with KBC Advanced Technologies and technical support roles with Amerada Hess and Esso Petroleum Canada. His experience extends to hydrotreating, hydrocracking, hydrogen production, light ends recovery, and treating systems. He has supported refinery profit improvement studies, turnaround reviews, and FCC debottlenecking seminars.
Mr. Telidetzki holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada. He is active in the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers Association (AFPM) and has participated in its conference Q&A and FCC panels.
Venue:
The training will be held virtually.
