Levels and experience are guidelines based on topic-specific experience. All courses support foundational and advanced learning.
About:
This course provides practical instruction on the design, inspection, repair, alteration, reconstruction, and maintenance of atmospheric and low-pressure steel storage tanks in accordance with API 650 and API 653. Participants gain an understanding of tank design requirements, inspection practices, and maintenance methods used throughout the storage tank lifecycle.
What You’ll learn:
Understand the requirements of API 650 and API 653 for storage tank design and maintenance.
Evaluate storage tank components and their suitability for continued service.
Apply inspection, examination, testing, repair, and alteration requirements for storage tanks.
Understand material selection, fabrication, and mechanical design considerations.
Support safe operation and long-term integrity of atmospheric and low-pressure storage tanks.
Who Should Attend:
Storage Tank Design and Maintenance (API 650, and API 653) is designed for mechanical, inspection, maintenance, reliability, and fixed equipment engineers responsible for the design, fabrication, inspection, repair, alteration, reconstruction, or maintenance of atmospheric and low-pressure steel storage tanks.

Taught By:
Nadarajah Chithranjan (Ranjan)
Meet The Instructor:
Dr. Nadarajah “Ranjan” Chithranjan has over 18 years of worldwide involvement in petrochemical industries, including experience with ExxonMobil Research and Engineering. Before joining Becht Engineering, he worked as a fixed equipment specialist at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering and worked in more than a dozen countries solving complex mechanical plant problems and providing mechanical support for large-scale projects.
He has extensive knowledge of pressure vessels, piping, storage tanks, and design and maintenance codes. At ExxonMobil, he was the lead fitness-for-service specialist and is well versed in fitness-for-service codes and linear and nonlinear finite element methods for complicated plant problems. He was also the Mechanical Delayed Coker and Storage Tank subject matter expert at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering.
He is a former member of API 650 Welded Steel Tank for Oil Storage and is presently a member of the ASME Working Group on Section VIII, Division II, Design by Analysis and the ASME Working Group on Section VIII, Division II, High Temperature Design. He has more than twenty publications and two patents. Dr. Chithranjan received his PhD and bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Venue:
The training will be held virtually.
