Levels and experience are guidelines based on topic-specific experience. All courses support foundational and advanced learning.
About:
This course provides an in-depth review of sulfur recovery, tail gas treatment, and incineration technologies used in petroleum refining. Participants develop a practical understanding of sulfur recovery process principles, major equipment, startup and turndown operations, oxygen enrichment, performance testing, and current operating challenges while learning industry best practices for improving reliability, environmental performance, and unit operation.
What You’ll learn:
Explain sulfur recovery, tail gas treatment, and incineration process fundamentals.
Understand the operation and design of key sulfur recovery equipment, including reaction furnaces, catalytic converters, condensers, and reheaters.
Apply best practices for startup, turndown, oxygen enrichment, and performance testing.
Evaluate practical operating challenges and improve sulfur recovery unit reliability and environmental performance.
Who Should Attend:
Sulfur Recovery, Tail Gas Treatment & Incineration Processes is designed for refinery process engineers, unit operations personnel, sulfur processing specialists, refinery technical service professionals, and engineers supporting refinery design and construction. The course is also valuable for managers seeking a practical understanding of sulfur recovery operations.

Al Keller
Meet The Instructor:
Alfred E. (Al) Keller retired as Director of Treating and Sulfur Processing for Conoco, ConocoPhillips, and Phillips 66 after a 35-year career focused on sulfur processing and refinery treating technologies. He played a leading role in implementing the first high-level oxygen-enriched sulfur recovery units and developing several commercial technologies for amine purification, sulfur degassing, and catalytic sulfur recovery. His innovations include HSSX™, SSX™, HCX™, SPOC™, and ICOn™ technologies, and he holds 32 U.S. patents related to sulfur processing, syngas production, and HF acid recovery.
