Levels and experience are guidelines based on topic-specific experience. All courses support foundational and advanced learning.
About:
This course provides a technical introduction to petroleum refining for participants with engineering, chemistry, or refinery operating experience. It explains refinery business fundamentals, crude oil characterization, refinery planning, product specifications, and the purpose of major refinery process units. Participants develop a practical understanding of how refinery operations work together to convert crude oil into finished products while supporting safe and efficient refinery performance.
What You’ll learn:
Explain the role of petroleum refining, refinery inputs, products, and the overall refining process.
Describe crude assays, refinery product specifications, blending, pooling, and the refinery planning cycle.
Understand the objectives and functions of major refinery process units and technologies.
Recognize refinery configurations, process interactions, and key operational considerations throughout the refining process.
Who Should Attend:
Introduction to Petroleum Refining Processing is designed for personnel recently assigned to positions in the petroleum refining industry or operations personnel with refinery experience and technical backgrounds in engineering or chemistry. Individuals without technical or refinery experience should consider Basics of Petroleum Refining for Non-Technical Personnel (BTT040).
